Here’s a case study of the project Chowdhury’s Digital. For Rafi Chowdhury, a digital marketing expert based out of LA who needed a tech guy to design his brand collateral, build his business website, implement lead magnets, email marketing, woo commerce and sales funnel. His statement was-
I need a completely automated business website that I would not have to touch for the next two years and the only thing I would do is write and publish blog posts.
His budget for all this was $2000. Every site needs some maintenance but he was so happy with what I did that he went on to record a video testimonial for me. (You can watch that at the bottom of the case study.)
Here are a few things that I did for him.
Logo Design
He already had a logo that he had gotten designed from 99designs, here’s how it lookedAs you can see this is the most generic logo that one can find. Plus it uses multiple non-contrasting colors so it would look weird when printed in black and white. He did not want to change the logo. So I asked him
What’s the message behind the logo?
He was stumped. He asked me to come up with a design.
Here’s what I created for him
The Idea behind this logo
- Crisp, unique, and color independent thus a truly iconic logo (which is advisable because there can be many places where a logo needs to be printed).
Recently his fans got branded t-shirts for themselves and we had a light moment remembering how the logo was created
- The design smartly uses the initials C and D of his business name to show a shape of the globe. (symbol for the web & digital marketing).
- The Saturn-like ring adds to the uniqueness of the logo, makes it sophisticated and aesthetically pleasing and signifies his global client base.
UI Design
He had a rough idea about all the pages and the contents that he needed. I weaved all of it together to create a uniform, coherent, fluid and highly conversion-centric design.

you can see the entire design on my Behance profile here
This design has so many noteworthy elements that it can be a separate case study in itself. But the thing that makes me proud about this design is that it was completed in just 6 days. (From idea to design to implementation).
Here are a few key aspects and ideas behind the design of his major pages
-
The home page
The text marked in the yellow box uses geo-location and changes dynamically based on the location of the user
It’s landing page with a custom coded lead magnet that dynamically changes based on the location of the person browsing.
It’s an SEO analysis tool that I implemented.
It asks the user for a link to their website, analyses the SEO of their website
And gives them a comprehensive report.
When users are about to reach the bottom of the report a popup shows up, offering them to get a pdf of the report along with tips to improve their SEO.The consulting page
it’s Basically his sales page, i.e. the page where he establishes-- The need for the client to hire him (by telling them where they are and the opportunities they are missing out on because of not having an expert digital marketer)
- His unique capabilities as a digital marketer and the value that comes with hiring him (By showing his key strategies and the breadth of his client base over all the different segments)
- His credibility as an expert in the field (With lots of examples, case studies and client testimonials.)
- finally a Call-To-Action with a lead capture form (The place where people are put through his sales funnel).
The research that I did for designing this page taught me how to create a killer sales page.
- The need for the client to hire him (by telling them where they are and the opportunities they are missing out on because of not having an expert digital marketer)

The case study page
There are 2 key elements to writing a compelling case study that can drive prospects to take action.- Showcase the unique problems that he tackled and the results that he created for his clients.
- Demonstrate the strategies that he used to drive those results in a way that’s most compelling for prospects.
Once I knew about this the results were fantastic.
Case studies are basically a way of saying, I have driven results for these clients in the past, so I can do it for you too. To clear all the doubts that you might have heres exactly how I did it.
I would reveal all my secrets in a case study, even if I know that people can steal it from there. Here’s why-
The people who will spend days busting their ass off to learn how they can copy you are not your ideal customers anyways.
But your ideal customers are people who would trust and value your expertise once they are sure that you can get their job done. - Showcase the unique problems that he tackled and the results that he created for his clients.
-
The testimonials page
A list of his past clients saying good things about him but in an appealing design so that people actually read testimonials.
Plus I gave a ‘Read more…’ link in every testimonial so the prospects could look at a detailed case study of his work with the client along with the testimonial.
-
The blog page
A List of his last 5 blog posts in wonderful design with bold headers, thumbnails of featured image and an excerpt from the post and his lead capture funnel with a free giveaway in the sidebar. -
The contact page
Normal fields like name, email address, website link but with a few psychological hacks to create a sense on scarcity and urgency in prospect’s mind.
UI Implementation
The most remarkable achievement in implementing the design was that the whole design was custom coded solutions built using just 3 plugins –
- WordFence for security
- Jetpack for automated social sharing and related posts
- Yoast for SEO
Why I chose custom code instead of plugins
Implementing designs using custom code takes a lot of time and effort but it’s worth it. Especially if the person creating the website knows how to code. Here’s why-
Developers that are not good with coding use drag and drop themes and too many plugins to build the website. I have had clients whose websites are but using tens of plugins, sometimes as many as 35 plugins. Here are a few reasons why you should absolutely avoid that.
- Plugins increase the number of files and the amount of data needed to load. Using more than 10 plugins can slow your website to a crawl with a load time of more than 10 seconds. That creates a frustrating user experience and harms your SEO efforts.
- If the design of the site is entirely based on plugins, there are chances that something or the other will keep breaking each time a plugin or a change is made. That makes it extremely difficult for you to maintain the website.
A conversation I had on a facebook group for a question about choice of theme
So I suggest you long-term implications rather than deciding to choose a theme purely based on short-term comforts.
Website Copywriting
He already had about 60% of the content for the website. He needed someone to compile all the information and weave it into a homogeneous free-flowing design that would move people and inspire them to take the desired action i.e. hire him. Here are a few key highlights of the work that I did for him.
- Scrapping all the client data from his analytics, forwarded emails, and past records.
- Compiling the data to create the content for his pages.
- Using my knowledge of user behavior and consumer psychology to turn all that data into a flowing story with specific trigger lines that would excite the prospects and inspire them to take action.
Custom Lead Magnet Tool Implementation
As I have described above the homepage of his website was a landing page with a custom coded lead magnet that dynamically changes based on the location of the person browsing.
An SEO analysis tool that asks the user for a link to their website, analyses the SEO of their website and gives them a comprehensive report.
When users are about to reach the bottom of the report a popup shows up, offering them to get a pdf of the report along with tips to improve their SEO.
